A month before the term of President Noynoy Aquino ends, students led by the League of Filipino Students (LFS) trooped to Mendiola Peace Arch and called for his imprisonment.

“We ask the incoming administration of President Rodrigo Duterte to commit in making Aquino accountable in all his crimes against the Filipino people. We need to see Aquino in jail,” said LFS national secretary-general Aries Gupit.

According to Gupit, there are various reasons why Aquino should be jailed. The youth leader pointed out that one of these reasons is Aquino’s involvement in the pork barrel scam and Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP).

“Aquino is the pork barrel king. He shamelessly and brutally uses the people’s money to fill his own pockets. Even after millions of people demanded the abolition of pork barrel system, Aquino maintained different means to continue filling his own stash up to trillion of pesos. Even after the Supreme Court ruled that DAP is unconstitutional, Aquino still adamantly implemented the program together with other methods to corrupt the nation’s fund,” said Gupit.

“The Aquino regime is corrupt at its very core. He has repeatedly lied to the people and deliberately break the laws in order to plunder the people’s money. He must be accountable and be placed in jail,” Gupit added.

Gupit also pointed out that Aquino should also be accountable in the botched Mamasapano operation and Kidapawan Massacre. The youth leader also noted that Aquino must also be held responsible for the massacres in Lumad community and countless human rights violations and extrajudicial killings.

“The Aquino regime has claimed too many Filipino lives. By following his own interests and his true bosses – the imperialist US, Aquino has massacred our people many times. He is the Mamasapano mastermind. He is the massacre king. This is a crime that he needs to pay,” Gupit said.

Also, Gupit noted that Aquino must be charged of treason. The youth leader pointed out that it is a great crime to allow US to re-occupy our territories through the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA). Gupit added that Aquino must be accountable for all foreign incursions that he has allowed during his term.

“It is a great crime to sell our independence, our national sovereignty, and our territorial integrity. He will go down in history as the president that allowed the US and other countries to freely occupy our lands and seas. For this, he must pay – he must me jailed,” Gupit said.

“We ask President Duterte to make Aquino pay for his crime. We shall not allow the culture of impunity to continue. Ang mga may kasalanan ay dapat managot – this is President Duterte’s image and we ask him to uphold this by jailing Aquino,” Gupit ended. ###
