Days before the national election, three Talaandig Tribals killed – Katribu

QUEZON CITY, Philippines — Days before the national election, KATRIBU (Kalipunan ng Katutubong Mamayan ng Pilipinas) received reports of killings among the Talaandig indigenous peoples by state forces and paramilitary forces in two separate incidents from April 27 to May 6, 2016.

On May 6, 2016 at around 2pm, Datu Mansulbadan Lalinan, aged 64, was draining a small stream – a traditional method of fishing – when Mankolobi Bocalas, with two other men, came across him and shot him on the spot using an M16 rifle, carbine and a shotgun. He was hit in the chest and stomach. The incident happened in the remote area of Katigbaw, Talacogon in Agusan del Sur.

Mankolobi, together with his brother, Manlumakad Bocalas, were affiliated with the Dela Mance paramilitary group that has been terrorizing the municipality of Cabanglasan and the remote barangays of Malaybalay City. The Dela Mance have also been reported to be affiliated with the Alamara—a large paramilitary organization operating in the remote areas of Bukidnon, Agusan del Sur and Davao del Norte.

According to KATRIBU they also received report that on April 27, 2016, two Talaandig tribals, one of them a 6-year old boy were killed and wounded another in a military operation in Sitio Kaulayanan, Lirongan, Talakag, Bukidnon. The victim Michael Sib-ot was shot by four armed men who went after him after he ran out of his house to seek sanctuary in a church nearby.

Another, Romel Talian who also jumped out of their house and rolled down the hill was followed with gunfire and was hit on the buttock. Meanwhile, Edjan Talian, 6 yr. old, was hit and instantly killed by one of the men after arriving at the community to fetch water 200 meters away.

‘More than ever and as the leadership of President BS Aquino ends, we hold him accountable to all the human rights violations under his blood bathed regime ,’ KATRIBU said.

‘We challenge president-elect Rodrigo Duterte to steer away from being the same monster that BS Aquino was.’ KATRIBU concluded. #
