Under the banner of militant regional labor center PAMANTIK-KMU, pensioners of the Social Security Service (SSS) went to the Calamba branch of the SSS last January 28, as pressures remained for the Congress override of the veto on the SSS pension hike bill.

The protest action was part of many other protest actions regarding the SSS pension hike, which were also held at SSS offices in Quezon City, Baguio, Legaspi, Iloilo, Kalibo, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos and Davao.

“BS Aquino’s callousness to the calls for the SSS pension hike only proves his heart of not only stone, but of lead – such inutility shall not be let pass,” said Allan Bagas, secretary-general of PAMANTIK-KMU.

Pensioners from various communities in the region were joined by labor unions in the action, with the latter explaining that their participation is also a call for the future.

Meanwhile, they warned that more protest actions will follow as days pass by.

“As BS Aquino and his defenders trample on our rights to security, we call on more pensioners and SSS members to urge their lawmakers to override a lead-hearted veto, and assail the administration’s assault on our welfare,” Bagas said. ###
